Zoysia is one of the earliest grass species to be used as a turfgrass. It is native to Australia and many parts of Asia. It is a slow-growing, sod-forming grass that forms dense, uniform turf. Differences in low-temperature hardiness, growth rate, and leaf width are important for Tennessee homeowners to understand during selection. This publication provides an introduction to Zoysia species to assist homeowners in selecting the best variety for their lawn.
