Composting is essentially the practice of controlling the natural process of microbial breakdown of organic matter. In residential landscapes, removed plants from the garden, leaf litter, tree trimmings, grass clippings and many other materials can be used in home composting systems. This publication describes the process and practices involved in residential composting to manage yard waste- a practice that is both sustainable and practical.
